Treaty of Paris Notes

Signed September 3, 1783 (George Washington called the time after Yorktown until the treaty as the "most dangerous period")

• The Colonies were represented in Paris by famous people like John Jay, Ben Franklin and John Adams
• Officially gave the Colonies independence from Great Britain
• Gave land from the Atlantic Coast to the Mississippi River and from the Great Lakes to Florida
• The Colonies gained fishing rights off of New Foundland
• The Colonies were expected to pay any debts back to Great Britain
